This Corpse Reviver #2 cocktail is adapted from Harry Craddock’s Savoy Cocktail Book, published in 1930. This family of cocktails, intended as hangover cures, has a history that dates back at least as far as 1861 when they first appeared in the British satirical magazine, Punch (not to be confused with PUNCH, the online wine, spirits and cocktail magazine). This cocktail hits you like an open hand to the face on a cold day. It’ll wake you up quick, and knock you back on your butt if you have more than a couple.
Corpse Reviver #2 Cocktail
- ¾ oz. gin
- ¾ oz. triple sec
- ¾ oz. Lillet Blonde
- ¾ oz. fresh lemon juice
- < ¼ oz. absinthe (or substitute) to taste (it doesn’t take much, and just a rinse of the glass works well)
- Orange peel for garnish
Rinse chilled cocktail glass with absinthe, set aside. Combine all other ingredients, shake, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass or coupe.
